3.8% Tax Information
There is an email circulating among industry professionals claiming that sellers will pay a 3.8 percent sales tax on homes sold after 2012. The claims in this message are inaccurate. A sales tax will not be imposed on all real estate transactions. The rumor is based on a 3.8 percent Medicare tax in the Health Care Bill that will apply to high-income households that have a specific net investment income. The 3.8 percent tax will affect very few real estate transactions and will take effect January 1, 2013. To find out how this tax could impact you or your clients, read this brochure created by NAR and forward the information to your clients and colleagues.
