ABR, Accredited Buyer Representative :
The Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR®) designation is held by more than 30,000 REALTORS® who work as buyer's agents. A buyer's agent represents the buyer in a real estate transaction for a fee, just as a seller's agent is hired to obtain the price and sale terms sought by the seller. A buyer's agent is hired to get the best possible price and terms for the buyer.
ABR® designees complete a two-day course that covers the legalities and issues surrounding representation as a buyer's agent, as well as an elective advanced ABR® course. Students must achieve test scores of 80 percent of higher to obtain designation. In addition, individuals seeking the ABR® designation must be members of NAR and must verify five closed transactions where they represented the buyer within a three year time period. The course fee includes the first year's dues payment to NAR's Real Estate BUYER'S AGENT Council (REBAC). The ABR® is the only nationally recognized designation for buyer's agents and is offered by REBAC. For more information, call 800-648-6224, or e-mail rebac@realtor.org.
